It is a very large country (the eighth largest in the world!) and as such has a wide variety of climates. So, it will depend a lot on what activities you are interested in doing during your time in the country.
As a general rule we can say that the high seasons to travel to Argentina are: the boreal summer, mostly August for European and North American tourists, and the southern summer, in particular January and February for the South Americans. However, the best time to visit Argentina is from March to May and from September to November, autumn and spring. Why? On the one hand, temperatures are not so extreme, cold days are few, and hotter days have not yet arrived.
Actually, most places in Argentina can be visited throughout the year, but there are certain activities that could be restricted by the weather. If you are wondering when is the best time to visit Patagonia during the winter (from June to August), can be hard if are thinking about trekking activities, but it is the perfect time for those one wishes to ski. For activities such as horseback riding, mountain biking, kayaking and hiking excursions; summer offer you the chance for much greater explorations when compared with the winter months.
Buenos Aires is a city that can be visited all year round, all nearby activities and walks can be done at any time. Although probably the best time to visit Buenos Aires are are the intermediate seasons, that is, spring and autumn. These are also the best time to visit Mendoza and the Wine district.
And the perfect moments to do whale watching in Puerto Madryn are from May to December. It coincides with the time that there are more on the coast, even in some cases being observable from the shore.
Regarding the northern region of the country, Salta and Jujuy in the northwest, and the Iguazu Falls and the Esteros del Iberá in the northeast. Probably the least recommended months are from December to February due to the high temperatures and the greater possibility of rains.
