Are you ready for an adventure in stunning Argentine Patagonia? The Laguna Torre trek is a must-see gem nestled in the heart of Los Glaciares National Park. This hike offers breathtaking views and is a favorite among tourists and climbers who dream of conquering the iconic Cerro Torre, one of the most recognizable peaks in the Andes.
While climbing the granite walls of Cerro Torre is quite a challenge reserved for skilled climbers, you can still delight in its beauty by taking the Laguna Torre path. The best time to lace up your hiking boots and hit the Laguna Torre trail is during Patagonia’s summer months, from November to March. During this time, the weather is generally more stable, and you won’t have to deal with snow on the trails. That said, Patagonia is known for its unpredictable climate, so it’s smart to be ready for anything. It’s a great idea to visit the ranger’s information site for accurate weather reports.

Plus, the starting point of the trail is conveniently located just west of El Chaltén, often called Argentina’s trekking capital. Unlike the steeper hike to Laguna de los Tres, this trail features gentle inclines and well-maintained paths, making it accessible for most hikers, including beginners including beginners with decent fitness levels.
Right from the beginning Laguna Torre Trek, you’ll be greeted with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, setting the stage for an unforgettable adventure. Get your cameras ready for the dramatic spires of Cerro Torre and the glacier—there are plenty of photo opportunities, and you might even spot some icebergs floating on the turquoise waters of Laguna Torre!
As you start your hike, you’ll make your way through beautiful valleys and lenga forests, with occasional glimpses of the Rio Fitz Roy valley. Keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife, like the majestic Andean condors soaring overhead and curious Magellanic woodpeckers tapping away on tree trunks.

As you descend to Laguna Torre, you’ll find a beautiful glacial lake fed by the melting ice of the Grande Glacier. Look out for floating icebergs—calved from the glacier—drifting across the surface, adding to the lake’s magical charm. The towering granite spires of Cerro Torre often peek through the clouds, making this one of the most awe-inspiring views in Patagonia.
