Day 1: Arriving to Cafayate

The firts day of your Luxury Puna de Atacama Trip, your driver will be waiting for you at Salta airport to take you to your accommodation in Cafayate.

DAYS 2 - 6

Puna de Atacama Argentina and Chile

Puna de Atacama, a highland region of 80,000 km2 located in the north of Argentina (85%) and Chile (15%). The varied landscapes of this desert area include volcanoes, lakes, lagoons, plateaus and extensive salt flats such as Salinas Grandes, Atacama, Antofalla, Pocitos, Pastos Grandes, Arizaro, Incahuasi and Hombre Muerto, as well as narrow ravines and small valleys called vegas and curious rock formations shaped by wind erosion. The landscapes are so unusual that you will feel on another planet.

Day 2: Travel to Antofagasta de Las Sierras

Second day of your Luxury Puna de Atacama Trip. Today you will leave Cafayate, in Salta province, to travel to Antofagasta de las Sierras, in Catamarca province. On the way you will cross a little part of Tucuman province, to visit The Ruins of Quilmes, the remains of the most extensive pre-Columbian settlement in Argentina located at the foot of the Alto del Rey hill.

After touring the ruins, you will continue in Catamarca province, going to visit the city of Santa Maria. In the Pre-Columbian era, the region was inhabited by aborigines (Santa María Culture), of great urban development, ceramics and stone constructions; the Incas then left their cultural imprint in the region from the XV century. Santa Maria is beautiful city with vestiges of the Hispanic foundation mixed with pre-Columbian cultures, has beautiful museums and monuments.

Continue the journey to Antofagasta de las Sierras passing through Hualfin, a typical mountain village in the Inca Route. little by little entering the Puna de Atacama. Its Chapel of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, is a wonderful architectural jewel of adobe and carob tree in the center of the city and El Peñon a little town in the middle of the Puna and continue to Antofagasta de las Sierras. Once at Antofagasta de las Sierras you will rest up and recharge you energies for the next day.

Day 3: Visit Campo de Piedra Pomez and Laguna Carichi Pampa

Set out to explore more of the Puna de Atacama region adventure. Today you will take a tour to Campo de Piedra Pómez, located in the department of Antofagasta de la Sierra, in its 25 km length it resembles a sea of white rock with pink ridges. Here, the strong wind that descends from the Andes has carved in the rocks the most diverse forms creating correctors, and all kinds of fascinating sculptures.

Witnessing of the intense volcanic activity of the region, the Campo de Piedra Pómez is a unique landscape that make you feel in another word. You also will visit the Laguna Carachi Pampa full of flamingos. After the tour you will came back to Antofagasta de las Sierras to finish your 3rd day of your Luxury Puna de Atacama Itinerary.

Day 4: Transfer to Tolar Grande and visit to Salar de Antofalla, Laguna Verde, Salar del Hombre Muerto

On your 4th day of your Luxury Puna de Atacama Trip, you will continue this adventure going to explore Antofalla, located in the province of Catamarca, is an oasis town lost in the middle of nowhere. Before reaching the town, you have to cross the magnificent Salar de Antofalla (Salt Flats) and you also will visit the Laguna Colorada, at the foot of the Carachi Pampa volcano, which, as its name implies, is red. You will have to see it to believe it!

In the distance, you will probably see several vicuñas graze calmly while a colony of flamingos relaxes in the lagoon. Continue the journey to the last stop before Tolar Grande, the Salar de Arizaro, which is located more than 3,000 meters above sea level. It is the third largest salt flat on the continent, for kilometers and kilometers, the only thing observed is a desert landscape that hypnotizes visitors. And the Cone of Arita, protagonist of the landscape, a pyramid of 200 meters high volcanic origin that rises at the southern end of the salt flat forming a perfect natural cone. Once in Tolar Grande you can rest and relax on this Puna de Atacama Itinerary.

Day 5: Visit Salinas Grandes and enjoy a wonderful night in the middle of Salinas Grandes at Pristine Camps

Continue exploring the Puna de Atacama Region, in Jujuy Province and the amazing Salinas Grandes (Salt Flats). The Salinas Grandes, a vast saline of 212 km2 in full Puna at 3,450 meters high, is the second largest salt flat in South America and the world. An extension of salt that contrasts with the blue of the sky. Unique natural environment with its traditional artisanal exploitation of salt. The salt flat is shared by Salta and Jujuy provinces. Day 6: Transfer to San Pedro de Atacama

Continue your Luxury Puna de Atacama Itinerary traveling to San Pedro de Atacama, in Chile. You will travel for approximately 3 hours through National Route 52. Finally, you will reach Paso de Jama (Chilean border), and you will cross the border to spend the night at San pedro de Atacama.

Day 7: Visit Geysers del Tatio and Moon Valley

On your 7th day of the Luxury Puna de Atacama, you will start early, to enjoy a beautiful sunrise in the amazing the Tatio Geysers. In this place there are lots geysers from which steam jets emerge and pools of boiling water are formed. The best time of the day to visit the Geysers is on the early morning, when the sun lights colors contrast with geysers vapor. Enjoying this stunning landscape you will have your breakfast.

Returning to the road, you will enjoy the beauty of the landscape, the geological formations, native fauna and flora, such as vicuñas, vizcachas, among other species. Then we will make a stop in the small town of Machuca, with straw and adobe houses, we will be able to visit the colorful artisans’ fair, and try typical dishes from this Andean area.

Once lunch is over, you will embark on the next adventure to the famous Valley of the Moon located a few kilometers from San Pedro de Atacama. This place is a geological spectacle, and is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve. The landscape is made up of extravagant rock formations resulting from the erosion of the wind on the terrain. You will feel as if you were walking on the lunar surface. The passing of the afternoon and the changes in sunlight will modify the view of the landscape. With the arrival of sunset, the golden and red tones will appear over the desert, an unforgettable experience on your adventure trip through the Puna de Atacama.

Day 8: Piedras Rojas, Atacama Salt Flats and Altiplano Lakes

The 8th of your Luxury Puna de Atacama trip, the adventure will begin after breakfast. You will travel to the Atacama Desert, to reach a small indigenous town called Toconao, with beautiful white adobe houses. You will learn about the history and traditions of this picturesque place, its monuments and historical sites. If the weather permits, you will continue our tour visiting Laguna Chaxa, which serves as home to a large number of flamingos.

Then you will begin a one-hour trek, during the tour you will enjoy beautiful views of the salt flat and the beautiful landscapes, and will be able to see the Miscanti and Miñiques lakes, their respective volcanoes and local fauna such as vicuñas, foxes and flamingos.

You will make a stop for lunch and then visit the Piedras Rojas área, where the oxidation of iron in the rocks of the high plateau has created a surreal landscape of reddish tones that seems to belong to another planet.

You also will be able to see the Aguas Calientes Salt Flats and finally we will return to San Pedro de Atacama

Day 9: Transfer from Atacama to Salta and visit Purmamarca

9th day of your Luxury Puna de Atacama Trip. Today you will cross the border again to came back to Argentina through the Paso de Jama. The frist stop will be the little town of Susques located in the Puna Region, in Jujuy Province.

Then you will continue saying goodbye to the Puna of Atacama to travel to Purmamarca you will cross the slope of the Lipán, a zigzagging and steep section of National Route 52, which reaches its maximum height in the Abra de Potrerillos at 4,170 meters above sea level. Then, you will reach Purmarca to enjoy the beautiful view of the Seven Colors Hill and visiting the main square and its colorful handcraft faire. After visiting Purmamarca you will return to salta La Linda to enjoy one night in this beautiful city and prepare yourself for your next destination.
