1. Colon Theater
Ok, yes, I might be cheating with this one in the list of best not-so-known places in Buenos Aires, it is world famous, but I feel it is important to remind you to visit the Colon Theatre. Those who enjoy the opera should try to get tickets for a performance in the Colon Theater. But even those who are not normally opera goers can’t miss this incredible structure.
There are several tours every day that allow you to step into the sacred halls, marvel at the lavishly decorated ceilings and walls, and learn interesting facts. Did you know, for example, that 7 soccer fields fit into the Colon Theater and everything, really everything, in the stage design and costumes is handmade? 2. Palermo Neighborhood
Every city has them, these districts are so cool that you don’t have to go to a particular spot. Strolling around is enough to capture the flair. Palermo is just such a district. Artists live here, architects work and everyone else who can afford it. Nice shops with colorful house facades, very good restaurants and cool bars make up Palermo.
The Palermo district lives up to its origins and has fantastic pizza and of the best ice in the world. But the nicest thing about this district is the many small streets with their colorful houses and magnificent trees, the unusual shops, delicious restaurants and hip bars. Especially if you have a few more days and don’t just want to go to the usual tourist highlights (from here it’s about 20 minutes by subway to the center), Palermo is the ideal place to stay for a visit to Buenos Aires. Just get up in the morning, start without a plan and wait and see what happens.
3. Barracas – The alternative to the classic La Boca
If there is one place that every tour goes to, it is Caminito Street in La Boca. Definitely one of the top 10 in every travel guide and is also the first place where all tour buses stop. If you like it a little quieter, but still want to marvel at beautiful house facades, you can go to the Baraccas district, more precisely to Calle Lanin.
The artist Marino Santa Maria has elaborately decorated the houses of this street with colorful mosaics, which were intended to enhance the area, which had long been less popular.
4. El Ateneo Grand Splendid
Buenos Aires is the city with the most book shops per inhabitant. Somehow crazy, considering how modern the metropolis is at the same time. However, the Argentines like to succumb to the charm of the printed word and so there are not only many bookstores, but also really nice ones.
The El Ateneo Grand Splendid was chosen among the most beautiful in the world. What makes it so special? The premises! Because here are countless bookshelves in the middle of a former theater. If you want to have a first look at the books, you can take a seat in one of the sofas. How crazy is that? Also and a café can also be found here, right in the large hall.
5. Reserva Ecológica – The green lung
Anyone who spends several days in a city as big as Buenos Aires will surely long for a little peace in the green. In the Reserva Ecologica you have 350 hectares where you can enjoy just that. 575 plant species are on the site. The silence is only disturbed by the twittering of birds, you can find 307 species of feathered friends here. Take a look at the water again and again, because there are lots of coypu (swamp beavers) on the way. Admission is free, which also attracts some joggers to the site.
6. Art market on the Plazoleta Julio Cortazar
This small fine market takes place every Saturday in Palermo. Whether tango watercolors, handmade jewelry, T-shirts or dog leads – the selection is colorful, handmade and really beautiful. A great place to buy an authentic souvenir. And when you’ve finished your tour of the market, you can treat yourself to a coffee around the corner. Because the best third wave cafes are also in Palermo.

7. The San Telmo market
Siphons in shades of blue and green, matte cups, jewelry and everything else that a typical market should have can be found at the flea market in San Telmo. Not only the tourists love it, but also the locals.
