This magic mountain town is located in the southern Andes, within the Los Glaciares (Glaciers) National Park (Santa Cruz Province), in a valley where the rivers De las Vueltas and Fitz Roy meet, as a result, Chalten is enclosed between rivers and mountains. Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre are a challenge for climbers around the world, consequently, mountains are the predominant figures in the landscape of El Chalten, which offers many trekking options among lengas and ñires forests, beautiful lakes, rivers and hanging glaciers that you can explore with your local guide. Take your flight to El Calafate Airport where the local driver will be waiting for you to take you to El Chalten. While in the way you will enjoy the Patagonian Steppe landscape with its lakes, rivers and native fauna like the guanacos. A few kilometers before reaching the town you will begin to see the impressive mountain peaks that enclose this charming place. Once you arrive you can enjoy the rest of the day walking around the downtown.
This trail is considered the main trekking in the area, with the most spectacular views of the Fitz Roy massif. This natural viewpoint is the closest site to the imposing walls of the Fitz Roy mountain and its peripheral granitic needles.
After breakfast we take our bus to Rio Electrico where you will start our trek. Once there you will begin your walk accompanied by the National Park Guide. You will enter the Lengas and Ñires forest following the course of the River Blanco to the First Viewpoint from where we will have a beautiful panoramic view of the Piedras Blancas Glaciers. You will make a short stop and then continue for another 45 minutes until we reach Camp Poincenot and then Camp Rio Blanco.
From Rio Blanco, those who have more energy and want to, will be able to climb accompanied by the guide to the Mirador Laguna de los Tres. This climb takes about an hour of trekking and with a slope 420 meters of unevenness in rocky terrain. Once at the lagoon we will have a spectacular view of the Fitz Roy Massif, the Laguna de los Tres and its glaciers. A few meters away, you can also see the Laguna Sucia. Then we will return to the River Blanco and begin the return to El Chaltén by the Laguna Capri trail.
Hiking: 13 miles (9-10 hours), 3,150’ cumulative elevation gain.
Cerro Torre trail runs along beech forest, bogs and shrubland and leads to Laguna Torre, enclosed by moraines and with Grande Glaciers calving in its west side. The Laguna Torre Trail is one of the main trekkings of El Chaltén. The trekking starts from the village from where we will begin our walk accompanied by your National Park Guide. This is a quiet walk of approximately 7 hours round-trip, with a slight slope in the first minutes, you will walk following the course of River Fitz Roy. During the way you can see majestic panoramic views. Stops will be made according to the climatic conditions and interests of the participants.
Hiking: 13 miles (7 hours), 1,950’ cumulative elevation gain.
A very stunning hike in the National Park on the Loma del Pliegue Tumbado trail to access a 360 ° view point from where you can appreciate the valleys of Fitz Roy, Torre y Toro, the Patagonian steppe and the gigantic Lake Viedma. Its a full day hike as you will walk from Chalten to the summit of this mountain.
The first section of the trail climbs the slopes of the mountain and winds through steppe and forest eventually breaking through to the tree line. After an hour of hiking uphill and crossing small streams and groves of Ñires and Lengas, you arrive to our first viewpoint from where we will have spectacular views of both Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy massifs, their valley and hanging glaciers.
As we continue on, we will feel the full force of the winds to reach the summit cone and eventually the summit. Here we are rewarded by additional views of the surrounding mountains which include Paso del Viento and the Mariano Moreno range in the Southern Ice Field. We will get back to El Chalten in the afternoon to travel to El Calafate.
Hiking: 13 miles (7-8 hours), 4,000’ cumulative elevation gain.

During the morning you will visit the Perito Moreno Glacier at Los Glaciares (Glaciers) National Park. You will travel during 50km crossing the Patagonian Steppe and enjoying the incredible landscape of the Centinela River Valley, Lake Argentino and the Andes Mountain range. Upon arrival at the Los Glaciares (Glaciers) National Park entrance, you will continue the journey for 30 km more, through the Andean-Patagonian Forest. Halfway we will stop at El Mirador de los Suspiros, the first view of the Perito Moreno Glacier and, as the final point of the route, we will arrive at the balconies in front of the Perito Moreno Glaciers.
After visiting the Perito Moreno you will navigate to visit Spegazzini and Upsala Glaciers. Todo Glaciares Sunset navigation allows you to enjoy the beautiful colors of the exquisite Patagonian sunsets since it takes place in the evening, unlike Todo Glaciares, which starts in the morning. You will board at Puerto Punta Bandera. Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed in our warm boarding terminal. Once on board our comfortable vessels, Sunset begins by navigating towards the Spegazzini Channel. You will have the opportunity to see unique views of three incredible glaciers: Glacier Heim Sur, Glacier Peineta, and the imposing Glacier Spegazzini, the largest of them all, offering a majestic view with a height of over 135 meters.
After departure, we will approach Glacier Spegazzini to admire its massive ice mass. We will then visit Dry Glacier and finally head towards the Upsala Channel, where you will experience the unparalleled sensation of navigating among ice floes, some of which are very large and break off from the Upsala Glacier.
